| Lombardy Poplar | Willow family |
| Populus nigra 'Italica' | Salicaceae |
Lombardy Poplars can grow up to 100 feet tall, and are often planted in rows in parks as windbreaks. The branches all grow straight upwards, producing a spire-like shape. The vast majority of trees in Britain are male, bearing red catkins in early spring. It is closely-related to the hybrid Black Poplar, with leaves wider than long.
