Water-lily family (Nymphaeaceae)

Water-lilies are aquatic plants of still or moving fresh water, with large floating leaves, and roots which are buried in the underlying mud. The leaves have a waxy coating, so that rainwater forms into droplets, allowing the leaves to breathe through their upper surfaces.
