| Common Milkwort | Milkwort family |
| Polygala vulgaris | Polygalaceae |
Common Milkwort is a sprawling plant of dry grassland and chalky areas.
The intricate flowers are usually blue, but may also be magenta, lilac, pink, white, or white flushed with blue.
Heath Milkwort (Polygala serpyllifolia) is a very similar species:
the main difference is that it has opposite lower leaves,
whereas in the Common Milkwort the leaves are all alternate.
