Hop is a climbing perennial, often found as an escape from cultivation, but it can be truly wild in damp woods.
The dried fruiting heads are used to flavour and preserve beer. It is also used in pillows as a sleeping aid.

Perennial climber, twining clockwise
Leaves: opposite, palmately lobed, long-stalked, toothed
Male flowers: yellow-green, in clusters
Female catkins resembling pine cones
Flowering time: July-August
Habitat: Hedgebanks and woods
Distribution: Common in England and Wales as an escape from cultivation
