Tormentil Rose family
Potentilla erecta Rosaceae

Tormentil is a sprawling or weakly erect plant of grassland and moors, usually on acid soil. It has a small yellow flower with 4 petals. The leaves are stalkless with 3 leaflets, although the presence of two large stipules at the bases of the leaves can make it appear as if it has 5 leaflets.
It is easily confused with Creeping Cinquefoil, which has 5 petals and 5-7 leaflets.
