From a distance the flowers of this shrublet appear insignificant, but close-up
they can often be seen to have red markings.
Wood Sage can grow on both acidic and lime-rich soils, adapting genetically to the type of soil.
It was formerly used to flavour and preserve beer, as well as having medicinal properties.
