Mint/Dead-nettle family (Labiatae/Lamiaceae)

This family includes mints and dead-nettles, and was originally called the Mint family (Labiatae), but has recently been renamed as the Dead-nettle family (Lamiaceae).
The flowers are irregular with a characteristic upper hood and lower lip, which are arranged in whorls around the stem, in the leaf-axils.
Many aromatic herbs are in this family, such as mint, sage, thyme, basil and marjoram.
