| Monkey-flower | Figwort family |
| Mimulus guttatus | Scrophulariaceae |
Monkey-flower grows on the sides of streams and rivers.
It has a bright yellow 5-petalled flower with small red spots and fine hairs
in the throat of the corolla where the petals are fused.
Originally it was introduced to the UK from North America as a garden plant, but escaped in the 19th century.
A similar plant is Blood-drop-emlets,
whose flowers have much larger blotchy red markings.
