| Japanese Knotweed | Dock family |
| Fallopia japonica | Polygonaceae |
Japanese Knotweed was originally introduced from Japan in the nineteenth century as a garden plant, but escaped into the wild, where it spread rapidly. It became such a pest that it became illegal to set it in this country as part of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
