Stinking Hellebore flowers in late winter in open woodlands, with dark green leaves and a cup-shaped pale green flower consisting of sepals only.

It may be distinguished from Green Hellebore in two ways: the sepals have purple-tinged edges, and the leaf segments arise from two arches on the tips of the leaf stalks (in Green Hellebore, all leaf segments arise from a single point).
