Radlett v Rowledge on Sunday 5th July at Queen's School, Bushey

Rowledge 188/5 off 40 overs
Radlett 54/9 (all out) off 27.1 overs

A great all-round performance by a full-strength Rowledge Ladies team resulted in an emphatic win by 134 runs. All the top 5 batters reached double figures, with Rachel Hillman batting all 40 overs for 49 not out, and all 7 bowlers were very effective, with an exceptional performance by Emily Marchant, who took 4 wickets for 4 runs.

Radlett won the toss and elected to field. Rowledge made a bright start, with openers Ann Mortimer and Rachel Hillman setting off at 3 runs/over, until Ann was bowled for 11. This brought in Katy Robinson, who immediately began to hit boundaries with superb lofted drives, until she holed out to mid-on for 13 with the score on 35 after only 10 overs. Katie Forward then came in and scored freely, and with Rachel anchoring the other end, they shared a productive partnership of 64 in 12 overs. Katie was eventually bowled for 22 with the score a healthy 99 for 3 off 21 overs. Sarah Messham then joined Rachel and hit several boundaries in a quick-fire partnership of 37 in 7 overs before being lbw for 20. Sophie Cooper then also joined Rachel in a partnership of 51 in 12 overs to maintain the scoring momentum. Opener Rachel Hillman continued to thrive, and unknown to her, was on 49 with only the last over remaining and Sophie on strike. Sophie did her best to force a single at the start of the last over, but was lbw on the second ball for 16. Jackie Rice was also unable to force a single, leaving Rachel to carry her bat for an excellent 49 not out, and Rowledge with a commanding total of 188 off their 40 overs.

Rowledge felt that the target of 189 would be beyond the opposition's capabilities, but wanted to ensure that the top-order Radlett batters didn't have a chance to get many runs on the board. Rowledge made an early breakthrough when opening bowler Katy Robinson bowled Radlett opener Piya Haria in the third over, but in Katy's 4th over, she twisted her ankle and was thereafter unable to bowl at full speed. Radlett batters Louise Verroken and Gerry Davies then compiled a second wicket stand of 23 in 9 overs, and although behind Rowledge's run rate, were looking well set. Rowledge eventually made the breakthrough when Rachel Hillman trapped both of them lbw in successive overs, reducing Radlett to 44/4. After this, Rowledge tightened their grip on the game, especially once Emily Marchant came on to bowl. Playing for the first time since last summer, she bamboozled Radlett with accurate swing bowling, getting 4 wickets in 3 overs at the cost of only 4 runs. By this stage, Radlett were in deep trouble at 49/8, so Rowledge crowded the bat, and Rachel Hillman got another wicket to give her figures of 3/15 off 8 overs. Angharad Nicholas-Podger then finished off the Radlett innings for 54, completing a very comfortable win.
