Guildford 211/4 off 40 overs
Rowledge 213/4 off 39.2 overs
Rowledge won a thrilling match with only four balls to spare, following superb innings of 90 by Katy Robinson and 58 not out by Emily Ingram.
Guildford batted first and got off to a steady start, although Katy Robinson bowled extremely accurately and only conceded 3 runs in her opening spell of 4 overs. Following the change of bowlers, Guildford captain Lesley Lawrence was beginning to threaten to make a big score, but was controversially run out by bowler Katie Forward for being out of her ground as the ball was bowled, having already been warned a couple of times. However, Guildford batters Fiona Bennett and Liz Jurczenko put on a stand of 64 in 10 overs, before Fiona Bennett was trapped lbw by Katie Forward for 37. Rowledge sensed a glimmer of hope as the next batter was caught behind by Jackie Rice shortly afterwards, but Guildford then put on a partnership of 97 for the 4th wicket, with both Liz Jurczenko and K.Wells reaching their fifties, accelerating the scoring as they went along. Rowledge got another wicket in the last over, but by then Guildford had compiled an impressive score of 211/4.
Rowledge's reply got off to a great start with an opening stand of 72 in 14 overs between Katy Robinson and Pauline Baker, with Katy scoring freely against the Guildford bowlers. Once Pauline was out for 10, Ann Mortimer came in to hold the fort and help to take the score past 100 for the loss of only one wicket. Ann was out lbw to former Rowledge player Liz Jurczenko, but her daughter Emily Ingram came in to join Katy Robinson for an attacking partnership of 99 in 18 overs, with both of them reaching their fifties. Katy's wonderful innings of 90 came to an end in the 38th over, leaving 11 runs required off 12 balls. In the penultimate over, 7 valuable runs were scored, but Rowledge nerves began to jangle as Sophie Cooper was bowled by Liz Jurczenko, leaving 6 balls in which to score 4 runs. In the final over, Emily scored a single, then Katie Forward clouted her first ball for 4 runs, thus winning the match with 4 balls to spare. This prompted the first-ever pitch invasion by the delighted Rowledge team!
